Hi GDoW parents!

The Israelites had every reason to be afraid when they were attacked by an alliance of five armies. But their leader, Joshua, encouraged them not to be afraid and have faith in God’s protection. Joshua prayed that God would make the sun stand still so they could defeat their enemies – and He did it.

When it’s time to begin, start your morning of family worship by watching the short lesson video with your kids. It’s a great way to engage spiritually with your family. And don’t forget to participate afterwards in the worship video links below from.

Lesson- Sun Stands Still

After the video lesson and music, you can use the attached materials to help take your family deeper into the lesson:

We worship the same God that stopped the sun in response to Joshua’s faith. Do you realize how incredible that is? Let’s put our faith in the same God Joshua did. That’s our God and He can still do the incredible.

REMEMBERING GOD’S GOODNESS

Hi GDoW parents!

Did you know one of the most frequent commands in the entire Bible is to remember what God has done? Remembering what God has done in the past helps us trust Him in the present. This weekend, we’re talking about when God commanded Israel to remember how He’d rescued them in a really tangible way – but setting up a pillar of rocks.

When it’s time to begin, start your morning of family worship by watching the short lesson video with your kids. It’s a great way to engage spiritually with your family. After the lesson is over, choose a worship song to sing with your kids!

Bible Story: Remembering God’s Goodness

Big Idea: God wants us to remember all of the great things He has done for us.

Memory Verse: “Remember the wonderful things he has done. Remember his miracles and how he judged our enemies.” Psalm 105:5 (NIrV)

After the video lesson and music, you can use the attached materials to help take your family deeper into the lesson:

God still wants us to remember all the good He has done in our lives. Remembering still helps us trust Him – now and in the future. Take time this week to remember. Consider even finding a tangible way to remember – with rocks or sticky notes or just a simple journal. But don’t forget to remember.

Hi GDoW parents!

This weekend we’re going to hear how God healed His people of deadly snake venom by lifting up a bronze snake. It’s a bizarre story, right? But this bizarre story gives an incredible picture of how God healed us of sin by lifting up His Son. Your kids will learn to think about and understand the mercy of God in a whole new way!

When it’s time to begin, start your morning of family worship by watching the short lesson video with your kids. It’s a great way to engage spiritually with your family. After the lesson is over, choose a worship song from the link below.

Memory Verse: “Moses lifted up the snake in the desert. In the same way, the Son of Man must also be lifted up. Then everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.” John 3:14-15 (NIrV)

After the video lesson and music, you can use the attached materials to help take your family deeper into the lesson:

We can forget sometimes just how simple the good news of Jesus is. The people of Israel had only to look at the bronze snake to find healing. We need only to look to the Savior who was lifted up on the cross for us. Look to Him this week.

Hi GDoW parents!

The Bible says in James 2:1, “My brothers and sisters, you are believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ. So treat everyone the same.” (NIRV) It’s such a simple command, but our sin makes it so hard to follow. The temptation is to treat people differently based on what they look or sound like. That’s what we’re going to tackle in this week’s family lesson.

Journey with Joseph – Week #5

We have come to the end of this series learning about the AMAZING life of Joseph.  God’s incredible plan for Joseph brought him from being sold into slavery by his brothers to a place of honor with God.  This story is of God’s forgiveness and God’s over-flowing grace. It is a story of seeing circumstances the way God sees them instead of the way we see them.  God ALWAYS works everything together for good.

Joseph’s Story in Review  ( ALL KIDS )
God helped Joseph get through some very difficult times. He was one of twelve sons. However, Jacob, his father, liked him the best. This made the other brothers very jealous.

Joseph had it made. He was his father’s favorite and got some special attention, and then all of a sudden his life was turned upside down. Joseph could have given up and become bitter. Instead, he trusted and followed God’s purpose. What others meant for evil, God used for good. God continued to help Joseph prosper throughout his life. Sometimes, things in our lives may change for the worse. Our family members may hurt our feelings or even harm us. If we continue to love, honor, and follow God no matter what, He will take care of us according to His purpose.

Every time Joseph found himself in a difficult spot, he continued to follow God. He followed God when his brothers sold him to merchants going to Egypt. He followed God in the presence of Potiphar’s wife. Joseph also followed God while in prison for doing nothing wrong. Joseph had no knowledge that things would eventually go well for him. That was not important. Instead, following God’s Will and honoring the Lord was all that really mattered. It is no wonder that God enabled Joseph to become the second in command over all of Egypt. Joseph would play a big part in God’s plans.

Joseph followed God’s heart from a very young age. Although he found himself in some very difficult situations, he never stopped honoring and obeying God. As a result, God gave Joseph great power and responsibility. The people respected Joseph for his integrity. Like Joseph, we cannot always recognize God’s purpose when we go through hardships and trials. However, it is a good idea to follow Joseph’s example. We can stand firm during these times, knowing that in Christ, we have a purpose. Jesus not only suffered some of the same things we do, He even gave up his life on the cross.

In the story of Joseph God teaches us many lessons: Protection, Serving, Forgiveness and, Obedience.  God watched over Joseph and he kept his eyes focused on God.

Week #4 Parents Guide–Journey with Joseph (Genesis 43-45)

For the next several weeks, we are going to learn about the AMAZING life of Joseph. The story of Joseph is better than any movie you’ve ever seen. It is a story of seeing circumstances the way God sees them instead of the way we see them

Review about Joseph what the children have learn through the series “ Journey with Joseph”  Who was Joseph, what, happened to him, and how God was with him .

This week we are learning about Joseph and how he forgave his brothers. This is a great opportunity to talk to our children about what forgiveness is.  We have listed some conversation starters that can help teach them about what forgiveness is & is not.  The most important lesson is for them to know that Jesus forgives us for the things that are bad (sin) in our lives we he died on the cross. When we forgive others, we are being obedient to God.

Forgiveness is…
Given: You don’t have to wait on an apology before you forgive. Forgiveness t helps us let go of the wrong done to us.
Our responsibility: Because we’ve already been forgiven by God, the Bible tells us in Matthew 6:14 that we should forgive others.
Ongoing: Forgiving someone doesn’t mean you’ll immediately feel better about what happened. It’s a choice to move beyond it. Think of a cut on your skin – forgiveness covers like a bandaid and protects you while your body heals.
Healthy: Not forgiving others can leave us feeling really bad on the inside, and cause us not to trust other people. Over time, not forgiving can be like picking a scab. Keep your hurt covered with forgiveness and your heart will stay healthy!
Throwing away:  A quick object lesson to do with your children when they’re angry over an offense is to ask them to write it down in ink or marker on a piece of paper. Explain that forgiveness is like tearing up that paper and putting it into water. After a few minutes collect those pieces and form them into a ball and toss it into the trash

Forgiveness is not…
Keeping score:
When we throw away the bad thing that happened, it means we don’t remind the person again that they did it. It means we start over.
Forgetting:
Even though we’ve thrown out the bad thing that happened, we don’t have to forget it happened. If someone who hurt us before tries to hurt us again, we can protect ourselves. You should always tell an adult you trust when anyone hurts you–no matter what.
A feeling:
Forgiveness is something we give even when we’re still hurt by what happened. Our feelings may still hurt for a time, but we can talk to Jesus and ask him to help heal our hearts.
Fair: It’s not fair that a person who hurt us gets a second chance, but love isn’t based on fairness. It’s based on the love of God who loves us without condition. I often tell my daughter, “Nothing you could ever do will make me love you less.” It’s true with our relationship with God, and it can be true with our relationship with others.

When you talk to your kids about forgiveness, ask them for ideas they would add to these lists, or examples of how they forgive. You may be surprised at how much they can teach you about forgiveness.

Pray
Ask you children to lead in prayer about learning to forgive others as Jesus forgave us

Week #2 – Journey with Joseph (Genesis 39)

For the next several weeks, we are going to learn about the AMAZING life of Joseph. The story of Joseph is better than any movie you’ve ever seen. It is the TRUE story of God’s incredible plan for Joseph, and the entire world. It is the story of forgiveness and God’s over-flowing grace. It is a story of seeing circumstances the way God sees them instead of the way we see them

Did Joseph make God happy by doing what was asked of him? (Yes)
Who wanted Joseph to do bad things ? (Potiphar’s wife)
What happened to Joseph did he get put in jail? (Yes)
Sometimes we may not want to be nice to others who don’t share, or are mean to us.  Sometimes we don’t want to listen to our Mom or Dad when they ask us to do something or be good.  When we are kind to our friends and listen to our parents, we are doing the right thing.   You know who is happy when we do the right thing? God!

As we study Joseph’s life, we learn about the things God wants from us in the way we treat others. It can be difficult to always treat others in the right way, but we know this is exactly what God wants from us!
Was Joseph sold into slavery by his brothers? (Yes)
Who bought Joseph from the merchantmen? (Potiphar)
What did Joseph do for Potiphar’s? (He took care of Potiphar’s household)
Who wanted Joseph to do the wrong thing while taking care of the household? (Potiphar’s wife)
Where did Potiphar send Joseph? (Prison)
Did Joseph still honor God while he was in prison by doing what was right? (Yes)
Joseph was frustrated, tired, and sad, but he was not defeated. Joseph still had faith in God. He knew God was with him, and even in prison, he kept his faith and did the right thing.

Memory Verse

There is a story in the book of the Bible called Proverbs. This story from Proverbs is about ants!  It says: “Look at the ants!  Ants do not have leaders, but they work and store up food in harvest season.”

Do you think ants are lazy, or are they working hard? (Working hard) They are working hard even when no one is telling them to!  Does God want us to work hard like the ants? (Yes)

There is another story in the book of Proverbs that talks about honey!
Honey is sweet & yummy!  This story says: “Honey is good, but don’t eat too much of it, or you will be sick.”

So what will happen if we eat too much honey?  (We will be sick)
What are some other foods that are sweet like honey? ( Cupcakes, cookies, candy )
Those sweet treats are very yummy, but what will happen if we eat too much of them? (We will be sick) God doesn’t want us to be sick!  That’s why He tells us not to eat too much.

Bible stories from Proverbs HELP us see how God wants us to live. Every story in the Bible HELPS you and me!

Do you know what it means to be lazy?  (Not wanting to do anything)
Have you ever felt lazy?  (Not wanting to do homework, chores, or help someone, etc.)

Proverbs 6:6-8 says: “You lazy people can learn by watching an anthill. Ants don’t have leaders, but they store up food during harvest season.” If you’ve ever watched an anthill, you know that ants work very hard.  No one is telling them what to do, but when there is work to be done, the ants work as hard as they can. It’s ok for us to rest sometimes, but when there is work to be done, we should work hard, even if no one tells us to!

Have you ever been made fun of for doing the right thing?
Has there ever been a time that you wanted to do the right thing, but you were afraid to?

The book of Proverbs in the Bible can help when you are feeling this way.
Proverbs 28:1 says: “Those who do what is right are as bold as lions.” Think about lions.  Do you think lions have to be scared of very many animals?  No!  They are kings of the wild!  In the same way, you don’t have to be afraid of doing the right thing. Being bold means that you are not worried or afraid of doing something.  When you do what is right, you are as bold as lions.

We learned about a few situations today where the Bible will help us. As we continue to read the Bible, we will learn that the Bible helps us in EVERY situation!
