The problem is slowly making its way into the national news.
Founded in 2004, the Northern Virginia Human Trafficking Task Force is a collaboration of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, government agencies and nongovernmental organizations dedicated to (1) investigating and prosecuting those engaged in sex trafficking, forced labor, and closely related crimes; (2) identifying, rescuing, and providing services to victims of human trafficking, and (3) conducting training, community outreach, and public awareness efforts.
Our goals include…
◾Facilitating a more coordinated anti-trafficking effort in Northern Virginia through protocol development, extensive community outreach, proactive investigations, law enforcement training, intelligence sharing, and more formalized partnerships between law enforcement organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs)
◾Identifying victims of both sex and labor trafficking
◾Providing comprehensive services to trafficking victims, and
◾Increase prosecutions of traffickers and those responsible for facilitating this crime. \
